Senior Data Scientist Job Description

The Senior Data Scientist leads the development and application of advanced analytical models, data-driven insights, and predictive algorithms to support strategic decision-making and mission objectives. This role integrates complex data from multiple sources, designs scalable analytical frameworks, and communicates actionable insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders. The Senior Data Scientist serves as a key advisor on data strategy, model development, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. 

•  Lead the design, development, and deployment of statistical, machine learning, and AI models to address complex operational and mission challenges.
• Identify and translate business or mission objectives into analytical frameworks and data requirements.
• Extract, clean, integrate, and analyze large, complex datasets from structured and unstructured sources.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including systems engineers, software developers, and domain experts—to ensure analytics are embedded into enterprise solutions.
• Evaluate model performance and ensure quality, transparency, and reproducibility of analytic outcomes.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, fostering an environment of innovation and technical excellence.
• Advise leadership on emerging trends, tools, and best practices in data science, AI, and analytics.
• Ensure all data use complies with security, privacy, and ethical standards. 

•  U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance is required for this position
• Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or a related field
• 15+ years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or applied analytics
• Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages; experience with SQL and distributed computing frameworks
• Expertise in stochastic, physical, and mathematical-based optimization models and sensitivity analysis
• Demonstrated success brining innovative AI and ML capabilities to bear on hard mission challenges at an accelerated pace
• Strong understanding of data engineering principles and end-to-end model deployment pipelines
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Demonstrated ability to lead analytic initiatives from concept to implementation

Preferred:

• Background in defense, aerospace, or national security analytics
• Background in engineering
• Experience working with sensitive or classified data in secure environments.
